This dialogue provides the basics when asking for directions in Swahili.

Person 1:             Samahani kuna benki hapa karibu? (Excuse me. Is there a bank near here?)

Person 2:             Ndio, kuna benki pale kwenye kona (Yes. There's a bank on the corner)

Person 1:             Asante (Thank you)

Person 2:             Karibu (You're welcome)

Person 1:             Samahani, kuna duka hapa karibu? (Excuse me. Is there a supermarket near here?)

Person 2:             Ndio, liko moja hapa karibu (Yes. There's one near here)

Person 1:             Nitafikaje kule(How do I get there?)

Person 2:             Kata kushoto baada ya mataa,liko kulia (At the traffic lights, take the first. It's on the right)

Person 1:             Je ni mbali?(Is it far?)

Person 2:             Hapana (Not really)

Person 1:             Asante (Thank you)

Person 2:             Usijali (Don't mention it)
